I dont know if this sounds weird but I have always associated subways with two things:
1. The movie 'Ghost' (Demi Moore's)
2. Law and Order series
Now that I am more routinely taking the subway I dont think of the above as much. It is pretty interesting to take the subway gives me ample time to watch, observe different people, their mannerisms etc....

hmm.. i find most of the people in the subway completely engrossed in themselves. reading a paper, reading a book, listening to music..
Ipod has probably killed people's social skills to a huge extent. Subway travel is an extremely lonely journey no matter how short. Unless the prospect of simply surrounding onself with people is enough.
... even I am hooked to the Ipod most of the times and just watching people, yet I would like to think probably its one way of relaxing, even though your surrounded with people. Depends how you see it I guess...But not sure how it would be to commute like this for a long period..
